What:

This training continues a prevention campaign to address gambling-related problems. Participants can expect to leave the training prepared to provide presentations to clubs, churches, schools, civic, professional and business groups and for various lengths of time. More specifically, participants will:

  • Explore their own attitudes and beliefs about persons who experience problems with gambling.
  • Recognize the signs and symptoms of problem gambling.
  • Understand the magnitude and seriousness of problem gambling.
  • Understand the various types of gamblers, the phases of pathological gambling, warning signs of problem gambling, guidelines for responsible gambling, and will be able to describe various means of gambling.
  • Practice giving brief presentations to a small group.
  • Receive a presentation packet containing multiple options for presentations including:
    • A CD with a Power Point presentation and other options.
    • A laminated presentation with suggested handouts.
    • Handouts that can be used for every presentation.
  • Receive a Certificate of Attendance for 6 hours.

Participants who attend the second day will receive additional training to become effective facilitators of the Urgent Challenge Training. Participants of the second day will:

  • Understand the facilitator's role and responsibility in group settings and in creating a learning environment.
  • Understand the effective communication and facilitation techniques used by facilitators.
  • Understand the most common learning styles and strategies that are used in group processes.
  • Practice facilitating an activity, with the group providing constructive feedback.
  • Receive a facilitator manual and a CD containing the handout and materials needed for the Urgent Challenge Training.
  • Receive a Certificate of Attendance for 3.5 hours.
